Sports Cities Ranked Since 2000

So we obviously know that since 2000, the Patriots and Red Sox have been really good, amassing 8 titles between them. The Bruins and Celtics haven't been shabby either, each with a title to their credit. This has to have them near if not at the top right? Near yes, number one, no. I based my rankings off of the number of seasons since 2000 for each sports franchise in a city. So for Boston's four teams, they've had 70 seasons between them since 2000. 46 playoff appearances in those 70 seasons and 10 championships. Pretty good since 2000. But my metric seemed to churn out consistency based upon the number of opportunities(seasons) each city had with teams making the playoffs and winning titles. The four major sports were taken into account for these rankings (MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA). See the rankings and my discussion below.

So San Antonio comes in at number one because the Spurs have not missed the playoffs since 2000, they have four titles, and they are the only team in the city. So San Antonio ranks one because of the number of opportunities they have, and how often they have a really good team. You can quickly glance through and see that Los Angeles, Chicago and New York all have at least five titles, but they have many more opportunities/seasons in order to win those titles.

In considering the least desirable sports town to live in and cheer for since 2000, you have to look at Buffalo, San Diego, and Cincinnati. Buffalo teams make the playoffs 17.14% of the time, with zero titles, San Diego teams 23.53% of the time with no titles, and Cincinnati teams 29.41% of the time with no titles. The cities below them only boast one major sports franchise, with Edmonton having the Oilers only make the playoffs twice in the last 18 years. As a Nashvillian, guess things could be worse as we have a team make the playoffs 42.86% of the time, with the Preds looking to add this first title as we speak! (You heard it here first)
