Thoughts on Titans' 1st Round Picks

Pick #5 - Corey Davis WR, Western Michigan

Many draft experts consider him the best WR in the draft, as this is obviously how the Titans had him ranked. His college production was great, but many will point to the level of competition as a reason for some of his success. He has not run the 40 for the clocks, but the tape on him shows he is not lacking in breakaway speed. Very good hands, despite a few drops some pundits may point out. From all accounts, he is a durable receiver, although he is dealing with a few issues of health at the moment. Didn't miss a game in college from injury, playing in 50 games for Western Michigan. Overall, I really like him as a player, I believe he was the best receiver in draft class, with the most upside as a future #1 WR for the Titans.

Pick #18 - Adoree' Jackson CB, Southern Cal

Electric is the first word that comes to mind with Jackson. Elite speed and athleticism make him a dangerous and exciting return man for the Titans. Not a big at 5'10" around 190, so size is an issue when looking at him as a potential number 1 corner. He has shown flashes of being a really good cover corner, but many times, makes up for mistakes with his speed. Not extremely physical, so will be interesting to see if Titans have him bulk up at the expense of his speed. Biggest knock is that he struggles at tackling, which will be something Dick LeBeau will have to work with him on. Overall, will be interested to see how he does as a cover corner, but excited about the explosiveness he brings in the return game.

What could have been/Grading the Titans first round picks

If you would have told me before the draft the Titans could stay at 5 and 18 and get both Jamal Adams and OJ Howard, I would have taken that no questions asked. So yes, I think both Davis and Jackson were drafted a little high. However, the Titans did address their two biggest areas of need in a WR and CB. I personally think the Titans tried to trade back with both picks and there were no takers. Trubisky going two hurt the Titans value at number 5. Allen, Foster and Howard being available at 18 was a shock, but the Titans took Jackson instead. At this point, my motto is "In JR (John Robinson) we trust." Corey Davis or one of the other top 3 receivers would not have been around if the Titans traded back, and Adoree' Jackson is electric and fans will love to watch him play. I think both these guys can be immediate starters and hope they are Pro Bowlers for years to come. My grade below is not based on how good the players are individually, it just reflects when they were taken compared to where in the first round they could have gone.

My 1st round draft grade ; C+
